Red Edge

The photographic series consist of wooden huts built by children in the forest near Brussels. The automatic change of the image structures time within the work and gives a sense of change that contrasts the act of building/defining a saved space.

The title Red Edge refers to the region of rapid change in the reflectance of vegetation in the near-infrared of the electromagnetic spectrum. Plants balance competing requirements for absorption of sunlight at appropriate wavelengths for photosynthesis reactions with efficient reflectance at other wavelengths to avoid overheating. They are able to both defend themselves and be active agents of change.
